As the 2024 season approaches, another four-star prospect will be added to the roster.
Arlington (Texas) Seguin four-star wide receiver Carterrious Brown has announced his commitment to Southern Methodist University (SMU).
He chose the Broncos over finalists TCU, Baylor, Texas State, Arizona State and Utah State.
Brown was one of my favorite receivers to watch this offseason in the Mid-South. He’s a stocky 6-foot-2, 175-pounder who will be able to add weight over time. This spring and summer, in training camp and on the national seven-on-seven circuit, Brown displayed elite ball-handling ability as well as the physical contortion and awareness to make spectacular catches. It seems like when the competition around him gets better, he gets better too.
Brown’s long stride helps him glide past defenders, allowing him to penetrate defenses and create a vertical threat. He’s also a red zone weapon, allowing his quarterback to get the ball in the air and let him do the rest, often well above defenders. Brown had lines Friday night both indoors and outdoors. Even with Brown’s lighter frame, he’s not an easy tackle and does well after the catch whether in the open field or in traffic. He used this offseason to add deeper route running ability, which should lead to a career-best senior season.
