If there are three things I love, it’s collecting toys, Comic-Con, and Marvel Studios. That’s why I jumped at this really cool opportunity to bring all three together.
If you’ve been living under a rock Deadpool and Wolverine Released this weekend, it’s one of the biggest Marvel movies in years. To celebrate opening weekend in their own unique way, Funko is allowing fans at San Diego Comic-Con to “Pop Yourself” as one of two characters. It was a massive operation on a scam site that was very hectic but also very interesting.
When you get to the front of the line, a special QR code will lead you to a website where you can log into your Funko account and choose the character you want to be: Deadpool or Wolverine. From there, you can choose your body shape, skin tone, hairstyle, and a few other features to make the pop look as close to you as possible. You can then pick up a few accessories, like the Comic-Con-exclusive TVA TempPad, pay $50 each (a fee Funko waves off to press covering the experience), and you’re good to go. A few hours later, an email appears, you return to the booth, and voila. You’re Funko Pop in Deadpool or Wolverine.
While there were some technical issues with my particular experience (mainly due to the crazy strain of WiFi), the team at Funko did an excellent job of resolving the issues and making sure I got the Pop I wanted. Meanwhile, a look from behind the booth revealed boxes upon boxes of different parts, almost like a Funko Pop graveyard, with a team of employees working to put them together.
result? Very sweet.
Good news for those people no In San Diego, it’s not just Comic-Con restrictions. For more information about the Pop Yourself experience, and to make your own at home, visit this link.
