If you could give Google’s Gemini a personality you liked, would you be more likely to use it? information The search giant is reportedly working on a concept where its Gemini chatbot could be modeled after a well-known celebrity or otherwise tweaked to give it a friendlier, more human response.
There have been discussions within Google to launch a personalized chatbot as soon as later this year, according to one of two people interviewed for the report. It’s part of a larger effort to make artificial intelligence capabilities more popular.
Google’s Gemini AI will power chatbots. The characters are likely to come from YouTube, another of Google’s biggest moneymakers. There’s no word yet on who has been approached about the project, but Google has discussed including popular creators. Imagine your favorite creator as your chatbot assistant. Hopefully the mention of “collaboration” means Google will be censoring creators before further deplatforming them into chatbots.
Google has sent about ten full-time Google Labs employees to the project. They are all made of Ryan Jemikis a long-time designer at the company and a former administrator of Google Doodles. Anthropomorphic chatbots may become a lab feature before being rolled out.
Google declined to make a statement to the outlet, but it did confirm that Google Labs is where the company tests “future AI product ideas.”
It’s hard to imagine Google making an effort to humanize its chatbot, especially after the somewhat lukewarm reception it received upon its launch. Character.AI and Meta offer similar personalized chatbots in their respective products. They don’t exactly engage users, but the so-called personality lends an approachable sheen to technology that consumers find suspicious.
