At least one person was shot to death Thursday night as more than 2,000 teenagers gathered in Long Beach, New York, for what police called “senior skipping day.”
A witness told Fox 5: “The next thing you hear is a gunshot, and then you hear a few more gunshots. All we see is a flash of light, and then we see a group of girls start running. What we saw Just a couple.
Witnesses said he and another man ran to a nearby laundromat and stayed there.
Long Beach police outnumbered the teenagers, so they called Nassau County police to help control the massive gathering.

“My son asked me to come here to pick him up,” one mother told Fox 5 in the car. “There was a shooting. He couldn’t get on the train. When I arrived, I thought, ‘Oh my God!’ I’m just glad he’s safe.
Police said two people were in custody, Fox 5 reported.
“Earlier today, we had a large group of young people on our beach, over 2,000 people in total,” a Long Beach police officer told Fox 5. “The Long Beach Police Department, with the help of the Nasua County Police Department, dispersed the group. This A group of people entered the area of Edwards Avenue and Park Avenue and the man was shot. The man was taken to a hospital and is being treated.
Police said the man who was shot was a man, but did not confirm his age or identity, describing him as a “young man.”

He added, “It seems to be social media and maybe the senior cut today. There are multiple schools on the beach.”

Amid the chaos, a woman was also seen twerking on the roof of a Nassau County police car, according to video obtained by the New York Post.
