House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries called Supreme Court Justice Alito an insurrection sympathizer and called on Congress to impose an ethical code of conduct on the court.

Leader Jeffries said in a statement, “Samuel Alito should immediately apologize for disrespecting the American flag and sympathizing with violent right-wing insurrectionists. He must recuse himself from cases involving the 2020 election and former President Donald Trump. Congress Legislation to impose a code of ethical conduct on an out-of-control Supreme Court should be considered immediately. The Constitution demands that the American people deserve more from their Supreme Court justices than baseless denials of election.
Leader Jeffries is correct on all points. Congress needs to take action to rein in a rogue and corrupt Supreme Court, and equally troubling for the country is the fact that a die-hard insurgent sympathizer sits on the bench.
Alito, the justice who wrote the majority decision that struck down reproductive freedom rights, is now following American democracy.
Reform of the Supreme Court has never seemed more urgent and important.
There is zero chance that the Republican-controlled House will act on this crisis, but once Democrats take back the House, repairing a broken and failed Supreme Court majority should be a top priority.
