We’ve been using social media for a long time – Facebook opened to the public in 2006 – which means there’s a long trail of posts made over the years. While this does allow you to take a nostalgic trip back in time with just a few mouse clicks, it can also bring back some awkward and embarrassing memories.
Maybe your Twitter content from 10 years ago is out of date, or you don’t want to remember an ex-partner, or you’re getting ready for a job interview and don’t want a future employer to judge who you are now from your social media posts from decades ago. Media Posts.
Whatever the reason, you can easily find and delete old social media posts using the web or mobile apps. (Of course, they say anything on the Internet is forever, but you can do your best to at least somewhat eliminate your mistakes. Who knows? Maybe your potential new boss has never heard of a time machine.) Facebook is about to mark its 20th year of being available to anyone with an email address, so let’s start there. If you were around when Facebook first came out, you’ll remember that personal status updates were much more common than they are now—people even used to write on each other’s profiles, like on MySpace.
The easiest way to find your oldest posts is to load Facebook on the web:
- Select your name (on the left) to view your profile.
- At the top of the column, list your posts (just below what’s on your mind? field), find and click filter button.

You can also return to your posts on your mobile device.

Don’t remember when you joined Facebook? Although the process is a bit complicated, you can find the answer:
- Open Facebook and click on your profile picture.

- Look for Account Center on the right side of the page. Select it and go to Your information and permissions > Access your information > Personal information.
- Your account creation date will be the first thing below File information.
- Select your profile picture in the upper right corner.
- go Settings & Privacy > Settings > Account Center > Your Information and Permissions > Accessing Your Information > Personal Information.
- Like the online version, if you look for File informationyou’ll see the date you created your account.
If you have a lot of posts to filter through, you can use additional filters (such as month) to narrow down your results. If you see something you want to delete, just click the three dots next to it, then click Delete post.
X/Twitter
X, formerly known as Twitter, can often be a place for opinions and opinions, and it’s possible – even likely – that some of them are older than others. If you want to look back in time (assuming you haven’t deactivated your account yet), there are a few ways you can find your oldest tweets, but using the platform’s built-in search engine is the most straightforward.

To delete a tweet, click the three dots next to it, then click delete.

If you want to use X’s mobile app, you can use the same search terms as above to find your tweets. Just click the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of the screen to enter the search box.
Instagram is only a few years behind Facebook and X, having first appeared in public in 2010. disappear automatically.
Here, you’re better off using the Instagram app on your mobile device:
- Click on your profile picture (bottom right corner).
- Click on the three horizontal lines (top right corner).
- choose Your Activity > Posts.
- tap From newest to oldest and change it to From oldest to newest.
Your first Instagram post will appear at the top of the screen. If you want to search more specifically, click All dates A drop-down menu that allows you to find Instagram posts within a specific date range.
If you see something you don’t want to appear on your Instagram profile, click on the post, click on the three dots in the upper right corner, and select delete. The same menu allows you to archive a post, which means you can still see it (along with all comments and likes), but it’s hidden from others.
