Man of the Match: Sam Curran
“I’ve had a few battles with Russell over the years. The hat-trick ball wasn’t in my mind, it was either me or him, he either hit me for six or I thankfully he got the win, but The most important thing is we won,” Curran said.
“When guys like Dan (Lawrence), Heitmyer and Russell are out there, the game is never over, so it was a relief when we got him (Russell) out.”
Brook launches Superchargers, beats Originals
Harry Brook’s half-century lifts Andrew Flintoff’s Northern Superchargers to 14th consecutive win over Manchester in the Hundred at Headingley Manchester Originals.
The England batsman smashed 58 off 33 balls as the Superchargers lost the match at 167-5, but the winless Originals fell two runs behind in the chase and were eventually eliminated.
The Superchargers got off to a tough start with Fazalhaq Farooqi taking the wicket with the first ball of the match.
Graham Clark and Captain Brooke rebuilt the innings with a well-constructed 50-run partnership. Brooke went on to score an explosive half-century before being caught by a stunning one-handed dive from Scott Currie.
Eventually, the original team fought back and limited the number of Supercharger stations to 167.
Captain Phil Salter and Marty Hurst got the Originals’ innings off to a good start with their opening partnership of 90 runs.
But both were bowled out – Salter’s 40 off 27 balls and the impressive Hurst top-scoring with 78 off 45 balls.
The Originals went from 90-0 to 128-4, thanks in part to spinner Mitchell Santner, who took 2-23.
Raw were claiming 29 off 13 balls when Hurst departed, but they could not get over the line as no other batsman hit double figures, leaving them at the bottom of the table.
The Superchargers moved into third place with their third win in four games.
Man of the Match: Harry Brooke
“I felt like they were the favorite on the power play, but we played unbelievable good ball in the death to get the win,” Brook said.
“The outfield here is so fast and I felt like I didn’t need to hit a lot of balls in the air, so I just tried to break the gap and it worked.
“I just wanted to hold on until the end so I could put pressure on them at the end. I felt good at the beginning and thankfully I found some gaps.”
