A hat worn by actor Harrison Ford in the second installment of the Raiders of the Lost Ark film series has sold at auction for nearly £500,000.
A brown felt fedora made specifically for the Temple of Doom movie sold for $630,000 (£487,000) in Los Angeles on Thursday.
Other movie memorabilia also on sale include props from Star Wars, Harry Potter and James Bond works.
Jones is an adventurous archaeologist who wears the hat early in the film when he and his companions jump from a crashed plane on an inflatable raft.
In the scene, he boards a plane with nightclub singer Wilhelmina “Willie” Scott (played by Kate Capshaw) and his 12-year-old friend Short Lang (played by Ke Huy Quan) to escape In the clutches of Chinese crime syndicates.
After the flight is sabotaged by the pilot, the three use a raft to fall from the plane and slide down a hillside.
The hat was also used for additional filming at producer George Lucas’ visual effects facility, the auction house said.
The fedora was also worn by Ford’s stuntman in the 1984 film “Dean Ferrandini,” and is being sold along with previously unseen photos of the stuntman on set wearing the now-iconic costume.
Ferrandini died last year. This hat comes from his personal collection.
Auction house Propstore says the dark brown fedora is an update to the original fedora from the first Raiders of the Lost Ark movie, with a “more tapered” crown than the first version. .
Made by the Herbert Johnson Hat Company in London, it has the initials “IJ” printed in gold letters on the lining.
Also sold at the auction was an Imperial Scout helmet used in the 1983 Star Wars film Return of the Jedi (which sold for $315,000 (£243,000)), as well as a helmet worn by Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter and the The glowing wand used in Prisoner of Azkaban sold for $53,550 (£41,400).
Meanwhile, a suit worn by Daniel Craig in the 2012 James Bond film Skyfall sold for $35,000 (£27,000).
Brandon Alinger, chief operating officer of Propstore, said the auction house is “proud to connect such a wide range of fans with the historic pieces they cherish.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Indiana Jones hat sold for more than twice as much as another Temple of Doom fedora at auction in 2021, which sold for $300,000 (£232,000).
