Update to company’s 2024 sustainability report demonstrates significant progress towards ambitious sustainability goals

Perrysburg, Ohio, June 27, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — OI Glass (NYSE:), Inc. (OI Glass or OI) today announced that it has released an update to its 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting key progress toward achieving ambitious sustainability goals driven by innovation and transformation.
OI Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer Randy Burns said that for OI Glass, the road to sustainable development is paved by innovation. True sustainability requires big change and big ambition – from the fuels, processes and technologies we use to our relationships with our suppliers, customers, communities and our nearly 23,000 employees around the world.
The 2024 report details key OI process innovations that saved more than 24,000 tons of glass and 13,000 tons of carbon dioxide through collective lightweighting efforts. OI reports that more than 100 energy efficiency projects have reduced nearly 35,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
OI reports sourcing renewable energy, increasing recycled content, improving energy efficiency and leveraging new furnace technology to drive sustainability as part of its wider climate strategy. The combination of these measures resulted in a nearly 20% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions compared to the 2017 base year.
The report also highlights 35 glass packaging collection sites created by OI to promote glass recycling in nine communities across North America. These recycling programs include four Glass4Good™ program sites, which have donated more than $26,100 to the United Way and collected 688 tons of glass. OI reports that through these Glass4Good™ programs, approximately 800 tons of raw materials can be saved and more than 230 tons of carbon dioxide can be reduced, which is equivalent to the annual energy use emissions of approximately 28 households. The company also reported saving nearly 145,000 tons of glass through 44 closed-loop partnership programs created with customers around the world.

The latest innovation investments covered in the report include a new facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky, built specifically for the company’s proprietary MAGMA technology and designed with overall sustainability in mind. In 2023, OI also completed a €50 million ($54.12 million) investment in Vayres, France, to install oxy-combustion technology and heat recovery systems, and the company has launched a new GOAT (Gas-Oxy Advanced Technology) furnace in Zipaquira ,Colombia.
