Instagram’s new “AI Studio” will allow creators to build their own versions of artificial intelligence chatbots, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on his broadcast channel Thursday that Meta is starting to offer it as an “early test” in the U.S. roll out.
Zuckerberg said that as part of the test, “you may start seeing artificial intelligence and interest-based artificial intelligence from your favorite creators on Instagram in the coming weeks.” “Currently these will primarily appear in messaging and will be clearly labeled as artificial intelligence.”
Zuckerberg shared some videos of conversations with artificial intelligence chatbots made by creators as examples. In a creator’s Instagram, you can click the Message button to start a conversation. A notice at the top said the messages were generated by artificial intelligence and “some messages may be inaccurate or inappropriate.” (Hopefully, Meta’s system will stop these creator-made AIs from saying some horrible things.) Meta also puts “AI” in front of the creator’s name andat least for now, has a “beta” tag after the person’s name.
“We’ve been working closely with creators to build this content so they can help answer questions from their followers and can chat with people in a useful and fun way,” Zuckerberg said. “It’s still early days and the first betas of these AIs, so we’ll continue to work hard to improve them and get more people using them as quickly as possible.”
In a new interview, Zuckerberg discussed the company’s artificial intelligence strategy. “We believe that people want to interact with many different people and businesses, so many different AIs need to be created to reflect people’s different interests,” he said. Meta hopes to let creators and eventually small businesses “create AI for themselves.” Interact with the community and customers. “We think this will create a more compelling experience and be more dynamic and useful than just having a single thing that people use.” He also said that Meta will allow people to make artificial intelligence characters that don’t necessarily represent themselves. .
Overall, this is a vision the company has had for some time — Zuckerberg made similar remarks in an interview with my colleague Alex Heath last year, when the company announced its Meta AI assistant and celebrity-themed chatbot. Now that the company is actually testing AI Studio, we’ll see if people actually want to chat with AI versions of their favorite creators.
