An Iowa man wanted on murder charges was shot and killed by Anaheim police Friday afternoon, officials said.
The police shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. in an industrial park at North State College Boulevard and Highway 91, just south of California State University, Fullerton.
Police said 18-year-old Victor Delgadillo was wanted in connection with a June 1 murder in Marshalltown, a small city about 50 miles northeast of Des Moines. He has been on the run for more than two months.
According to the Anaheim Police Department, officers are assisting the U.S. Marshals Task Force at the industrial park site, which is comprised of multiple local, state and federal agencies, including the California Department of Corrections and the San Bernardino County District Attorney. office.
It’s unclear what prompted officers to shoot, but police told ABC7-TV that “task force personnel and Anaheim police contacted the suspect and an officer-involved shooting occurred.”
“An Anaheim police officer and other members of the task force opened fire,” police said in a news release.
Delgadillo was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
A bystander was also hit by a bullet but was not seriously injured.
Delgadillo is accused of killing 41-year-old Ramon Alexis Feliciano Nieves at a bar in Marshalltown, according to a criminal complaint.
The police shooting remains under investigation.
