Dozens of Israeli settlers set fire to houses and cars in a village in the occupied West Bank, and the Palestinian Health Ministry said at least one person died.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said settlers, some wearing masks, attacked the village of Geit near the town of Nablus on Thursday night, throwing rocks and firebombs.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health said a local villager in his early 20s was killed and another was seriously injured in the chest. The Israel Defense Forces said it was reviewing reports of the deaths.
Israeli political leaders condemned the attack and promised to punish those responsible. The Israel Defense Forces said an Israeli national was detained in Jit.
Footage emerged on social media purportedly showing Jeet’s house and vehicle being set on fire on Thursday night.
Thick smoke could be seen rising over the village.
“Those responsible for any criminal acts will be caught and prosecuted,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said in a statement.

Palestinians often accuse Israeli security forces of allowing violent settler groups to attack their villages.
