Jay Field insists he will not be seeking a return to the NRL anytime soon as he looks to achieve more glory in a Wigan Warriors jersey.
The Australian full-back has become a key member of a Warriors side that have swept past all previous teams in recent seasons after moving to the Betfred Premier League ahead of the 2021 season.
Field has since signed two contract extensions with Wigan, the latest until the end of the 2027 season, and is delighted to be part of a side that currently holds all the trophies.
“I’m really content right now,” Field told bench podcast. “The players they’ve signed, it’s an exciting time at the club.
“At the moment, I’d say I’m really happy here and I’m probably not looking for a chance to go home like you were when you first got here.
“I’ve signed two contracts since I’ve been here, which means a lot to the club and shows how settled I am here.”
Field scored in Wigan’s 28-14 win over Huddersfield Giants last Thursday and was again named in the 21-man squad for the Leopards’ rescheduled ‘Battle of the Boroughs’ away game. sky sports Tuesday night.
The 26-year-old made just six appearances for the Parramatta Eels in 2020 before deciding to switch to the Warriors, and made just 11 appearances for his former club St George Illawarra Dragons between 2017 and 2019 Second-rate.
Field and team-mate Bevan French have both followed in the footsteps of the likes of former Wigan players Blake Green and Jackson Hastings in moving from Australia to the Super League to further their careers.
He believes the route is increasingly attractive to players coming from the NRL, who may find their first-year opportunities limited by more established members of the squad.
“It’s becoming more common now, especially with spine players, because some of the best centre-backs and full-backs are now in their 30s,” Field said.
“You can be a young kid with so much potential but you just fall behind the players and that needs to happen at the club for you to get your chance.
“People are starting to see this and Super League clubs are letting players out of those systems who are still hungry because that’s your desire to go back.
“Obviously it hasn’t happened yet, but I’ve established myself at a great club and a great team.”
Field has won the Challenge Cup twice since joining Wigan, last year in the Super League Grand Final and this year in the World Club Challenge against Penrith Panthers.
He is one of several key players to commit their futures to the club, the latest being winger Liam Martial, who last week signed a four-year contract extension.
“It was an exciting moment and the other boys in the club saw it,” Field said.
“Bevin locked himself in, I’m here, [Jake] Waddle has signed, so those players make you weigh everything up: do you want to leave this and be part of something special and then go back to the NRL that was probably the first place that excited you?
“You might not even get drafted again, you might be in and out of prep again, and if you stay here you have a chance to do some great things.”
