One person was killed when a running jet engine of a KLM airliner at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport hit the jet engine.
The death occurred on Wednesday afternoon as flight KL1341 was preparing to fly to Billund, Denmark.
The airline said it was looking after passengers and employees who witnessed the incident and was investigating.
The Dutch Gendarmerie also said it had begun an investigation.
The Royal Dutch Marehaus added in a post on X that all passengers and staff had been removed from the flight.
The spokesman told Reuters that the deceased had not yet been identified and it was too early to tell whether it was an accident or suicide.
Several Dutch media outlets suggested the victim may have been an employee involved in pushing back the plane before takeoff.
Pictures obtained by Dutch national broadcaster NOS showed emergency services working around the passenger plane on the airport tarmac.
The aircraft involved was reportedly a short-haul Embraer jet used by KLM’s Cityhopper service, which operates flights between nearby destinations in Europe.
Schiphol Airport said: “The idea is that [deceased’s] Relatives, our thoughts are with the passengers and colleagues who saw this.
Infrastructure Minister Mark Harbers said on X: “It is terrible news that there has been a fatal accident at Schiphol Airport today.”

Nearly 5.5 million passengers used the airport last month, according to its website.
Last year, a 27-year-old airport employee in San Antonio, Texas, died after being sucked into the engine of a Delta Air Lines jet.
