A woman is in intensive care after being attacked by a wolf while jogging in an animal park near Paris, according to French media reports.
They said the 36-year-old victim, who lived in a cabin in Tuvari Park, strayed into the main hunting area, which was reserved for cars, early on Sunday.
She was attacked by three Arctic wolves and suffered severe bites on her neck, back and one leg.
Located about 40 kilometers (25 miles) west of Paris, Toury is one of France’s most popular wildlife parks. The approximately 800 animals housed there are free to roam and visitors can view them from the safety of their vehicles.
The park offers accommodation near wolf and bear enclosures, and the accommodation areas are protected by electric fences and ditches, according to the France Info news website.
It’s unclear why the woman entered the car-only safari area. Park authorities have so far not commented.
An unnamed police source told Le Parisien: “At this stage we don’t know if the guest made a mistake or if there was a problem with the road signs.”
The woman was rescued after park staff heard her screams as she was attacked and was taken to a nearby hospital.
The investigation is ongoing.
