Trump ultimately quoted Sen. J.D. Vance, who said his trial posed a threat to democracy, saying, “They think it’s a sham. I think a terrible thing is happening to democracy in this country. Well, we have a lot of people Wanted to say, please stay and pass a lot of laws to stop this. Uh JD Vance, what’s happening in the courts is a threat to democracy and we can’t have a state prosecuting your political opponents instead of convincing voters.
A man who tried to end democracy by stealing an election claims it is in danger as he is held accountable for his alleged crimes.
The former president continued reading a bunch of newspaper quotes, as if he was trying to convince himself that the American people had his back.

Trump seems to know he won’t win the trial. On some level, he also seemed to understand that Michael Cohen’s testimony was very bad for him. Outside the courthouse, Trump went into a panic and spent several minutes throwing everything against the wall, hoping something would get stuck.
Donald Trump knows that a significant percentage of voters say they would not vote for the former president if he were convicted of a felony. Trump sought to discredit the entire process in hopes of discrediting the conviction.
Michael Cohen’s testimony was damaging to Trump, but what’s even worse is that it was broadcast outside the courtroom.
