If you were expecting to receive your Social Security check in July, the first round of payments will arrive this week. Checks are mailed on July 1 and there should be no delays – unlike last month. If you’re still waiting for your June check, there could be a number of reasons why it hasn’t arrived.
The date you receive your money depends on your birthday and when you started receiving Social Security benefits. If you’re not sure, we’ll tell you the exact date.

When will I receive my July Social Security check?
Below, you’ll find a timeline for July to know when you should receive your Social Security check or SSDI funds.
- July 3: Provides Social Security payments to people who received Social Security before May 1997.
- July 10: Social Security benefits are provided to people whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th of any given month.
- July 17: Social Security benefits are paid to people whose birthdays fall between the 11th and 20th of any given month.
- July 24: Social Security benefits are paid to people whose birthdays fall between the 21st and 31st of any given month.
How does the agency determine my Social Security payment date?
The Social Security Administration typically issues payments on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of each month. The date you receive your check depends on your birthday.
- If your birthday falls between the 1st and 10th of the month, your payment will be sent on the second Wednesday of the month.
- If your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th of the month, your payment will be sent on the third Wednesday of the month.
- If your birthday falls between the 21st and 31st of the month, your payment will be sent on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
Payments for SSI recipients typically arrive on the first of each month, but we’ll explain some exceptions below.
Will I receive Social Security and SSI payments on the same day?
If you received Social Security benefits before May 1997, or if you received both Social Security and SSI, the payment schedule will be different. You will receive your Social Security payment on the third day of each month and your SSI payment on the first day of each month instead of receiving your payment on a Wednesday.
These payment dates change if the first or third day of the month falls on a weekend or holiday. For example, March 3 falls on a weekend, so Social Security recipients received their March payments two days early, on March 1.
What if I don’t receive my Social Security check?
If your check doesn’t arrive on the date listed above, or doesn’t arrive at all, the Social Security Administration recommends waiting an additional three days for mailing time before contacting you. Afterwards, you can call a representative at 800-772-1213. (SSA notes that wait times are shorter Wednesday through Friday and weekdays between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.)
