The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a lawsuit against Oklahoma on Tuesday challenging state laws that impose criminal penalties on illegal immigrants.
The Justice Department argued that enforcing immigration laws is a federal matter and Oklahoma “cannot ignore the U.S. Constitution and Supreme Court precedent.”
Last week, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond vowed to uphold the law and accused the Biden administration of being “committed” to subverting this country’s immigration laws.

“We are taking this action to ensure Oklahoma complies with the Constitution and the immigration regulatory framework adopted by Congress,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Brian M. Boynton, head of the Justice Department’s Civil Division. ) said in a statement.
