A new ABC/Ipsos poll finds that more voters are excited about voting for Vice President Kamala Harris than voting for former President Donald Trump.
ABC News:
Harris has an advantage over former President Donald Trump in terms of how enthusiastic Americans are about Harris as the nominee. Forty-eight percent of Americans said they would be enthusiastic if Harris became the Democratic nominee. Fewer people (39%) say they are enthusiastic about Trump becoming the Republican nominee.
Enthusiasm for Harris as the Democratic nominee is at its peak among Democrats (88%) and Black Americans (70%). Forty-nine percent of independents are enthusiastic about Harris, while only 31% are enthusiastic about Trump.
…
The share of Democrats who said they were absolutely certain to vote increased, from 70% to 76%. Now, that equates to roughly 78% of Republicans saying they will definitely vote in the November election.
The election is moving away from Donald Trump. There are two factors at play. The surge in Democratic enthusiasm has the Democratic coalition excited to run again. Republican voters, on the other hand, showed during the primaries that they were never excited about Trump. Many Republicans have been expressing a desire to vote for new candidates and a new generation.
There are the forever Trump followers, who are the majority of the Republican Party, but there are also a significant number of Republicans who want a new generation of leadership, voted for Trump, but are not excited about it.
There are more anti-Trump coalitions in the United States than Trump’s MAGA supporters.
Kamala Harris appears to be mobilizing Democrats and independents. Early voting will begin in more than 30 days. If Harris keeps up this momentum, she will control the election and be well-positioned to win.
