Donald Trump got shot, picked a running mate, and held a convention where he raised less money in a month than Kamala Harris raised in a week.
Political coverage:
Former President Donald Trump’s campaign raised nearly $140 million in July, a sizable haul from the Republican National Convention and assassination attempts, his campaign announced Thursday.
The amount is a significant increase from June, when his campaign and other affiliated groups raised nearly $112 million. Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign has not released July totals but said it raised $200 million in the first week of her campaign.
It also knows that money has been pouring in for Harris through the end of the month, so her July total should be eye-popping, and August’s likely numbers after she names a running mate and accepts the nomination at the Democratic National Convention It will be huge.
Trump is in trouble. Although he tried to capitalize on the assassination attempt and get his supporters to open their wallets, he couldn’t keep up with Harris’ pre-fundraising pace.
Vice President Harris also has access to all operations and fundraising for the Biden campaign, so her run to the White House should be very well funded.
If Harris stays ahead in the polls, Trump’s fundraising will dry up. The next two months will be crucial, but Kamala Harris is in an excellent position to take on Donald Trump’s fundraising efforts.
