Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) returned to the national stage with new legislation that would establish a national registry of pregnant women.

Senate Republicans are calling their bill the MOMS Act, and Britt is as creepy as ever:
Today, I am proud to introduce the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed (MOMS) Act and @SenMarcoRubio, @SenKevinCramerand a set of @senaterepublican colleague.

What Stepford Katie doesn’t mention in the video above is what the legislation says:
- Establish Pregnancy.gov, a federal clearinghouse of resources for pregnant women, postpartum mothers, and mothers with young children.
- These clearinghouses will increase access to adoption agencies, pregnancy resource centers, and other relevant public and private resources for pregnant women in their zip codes and surrounding areas.
- As part of Pregnancy.gov, HHS will be required to include and maintain a national list of federal funding opportunities for nonprofits and health care entities for pregnancy support.
- Improve access to prenatal and postnatal resources.
- The legislation would establish a grant program for nonprofit entities to support, encourage, and assist women to carry their babies to term; and to care for their babies after birth.
- It will also provide tools for prenatal and postpartum telehealth appointments by establishing a grant program to purchase necessary medical equipment and technology in rural and other underserved areas.
- Requires states to apply child support obligations during pregnancy if requested by the mother.
Republicans argue the government cannot have a national gun registry because it could lead to a Second Amendment violation. However, Republicans could require the Department of Health and Human Services to maintain a database and list of pregnant women who may inquire about services.
It’s good for the federal government to know when women are pregnant.
What would happen if Donald Trump became the next president and there was a national registry of pregnant women? It’s not hard to see the Trump administration handing over these names to states so they can monitor pregnancies and prosecute any women who have abortions.
Republicans are trying to use Katie Britt’s creepy smile to hide their authoritarian power-stealing agenda.
What was once conservative limited government is increasingly becoming conservative big brother.
