(Kirin) will launch a new business in the health science field (Health Science Business) with a limited edition of 200 copies electric salt spoon, which uses electricity to enhance the salty and umami taste of low-sodium foods, will be available on its official online store (https://electricsalt.shop.kirin.co.jp/) on Monday, May 20, 2024. Additionally, starting in June, a limited number of products will be available in Hands Inc. stores.
This tableware-type device is equipped with technology that enhances the saltiness of low-sodium foods by approximately 1.5 times2,3. This technology was jointly researched and developed with the Laboratory of Dr. Homei Miyashita (Miyashita Laboratory), Department of Frontier Media Science, School of Interdisciplinary Mathematics, Meiji University. The daily salt intake of people over 20 years old in Japan is 10.1g4, which is much higher than the 5.0g5 salt intake recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). In addition, salt intake has not yet reached the “Healthy Japan 21 (Second Phase)” target 7 for all age groups of men and women over 20 years old.
