KTLA “Morning News” weatherman Mark Kriski is on the mend after suffering a stroke, just weeks after his longtime on-air colleague Sam Rubin died of a heart attack.
Local television stations reported the news about Kriski in a social media post on Wednesday, saying he suffered a “mini-stroke” earlier this week and that the veteran journalist and nine-time Emmy winner was recovering.
“Mark contacted us early Wednesday and we are happy to report that he is in good spirits,” KTLA Channel 5 wrote. “He also wanted to thank everyone who reached out.”
Kriski’s wife, Jennifer Gould, told TMZ that the veteran weatherman suffered a stroke early Monday morning at his home in Los Angeles.
She told the outlet he was hospitalized but was recovering.
“All of us at KTLA are thinking of Mark and his family at this time and look forward to seeing him soon,” KTLA wrote.
Klisky’s health scare followed the death of KTLA teammate Rubin.
Rubin, a veteran entertainment reporter, died of cardiac arrest on May 10 at his home in the West Valley. Rubin was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. He is 64 years old.
Rubin’s passing has devastated fans of KTLA’s tight-knit staff and journalists.
Kriski and Rubin both joined KTLA’s “Morning News” in 1991 and have served as on-air colleagues there for more than 30 years.
One day after Rubin’s death, Krischi wrote on social media platform X: “There will never be another Sam Rubin. Love you and will miss you my friend.
The post also included recent and early photos of the characters together.
At the time of Rubin’s death, co-anchor Carlos Amezcua described Rubin as the “connective tissue” that helped him, weatherman Kriski and co-anchor Barbara Baker Beck) reaches the target audience.
In 2011, Kriski suffered severe pain when he contracted pneumonia and was unable to work for several months, then contracted a hospital-borne “superbug” that landed him in the intensive care unit.
As Kriski prepared to return to work, he told The Times that the disease was “a life-or-death experience that gave me a new perspective: On the one hand, it was the worst thing that had ever happened to me. . On the other hand, it’s the best thing that ever happened.
“You do start to appreciate the little things in life.”
