Louisville police will investigate whether policies were followed correctly when they arrested world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler at the PGA Championship.
The 27-year-old was detained after trying to drive into Valhalla Golf Club in heavy traffic on Friday, May 17, and his arraignment was rescheduled to Monday, June 3.
Scheffler has been charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and ignoring a police traffic signal, all of which he denies.
It later emerged that arresting officer Bryan Gillis failed to activate Scheffler’s body camera video before he was stopped, handcuffed and arrested, even though that was standard operating procedure.
“The internal investigation remains ongoing,” Louisville Police Chief Jacqueline Gwen-Villarro said in a statement.
“Any policy violations discovered during the investigation will be appropriately addressed in accordance with protocol. The department intends to provide additional updates on the investigation on Thursday, May 23.”
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg added at his weekly news conference that “action will be taken” if the policy is not followed.
