While French President Emmanuel Macron’s ongoing belligerence has caused a stir in the press and caused considerable escalation, it represents a move in itself that is unlikely to have a meaningful impact on the battlefield.
Take, for example, his plan to train a 4,000-strong Ukrainian brigade in Ukraine. Kiev welcomed this, but he put French lives at risk only to get nowhere.
The same goes for fighter jets: France will now send an unknown number of Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets to Kiev and will train Ukrainian pilots for this purpose.
Awesome, right? Yes, but the mainstream media won’t tell you, but Ukraine dismissed these aircraft as aging and obsolete fourth-generation aircraft as recently as March 2024.
But now, apparently the Phantom is back in fighting shape.
Macron announced yesterday (6th) that France would provide Ukrainian Mirage fighter jets “Help the country defend itself against Russian aggression”.
Macron’s announcement came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky joined world leaders to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
The Associated Press reported:
Macron told France’s public broadcaster that he would announce new cooperation with Ukraine on Friday and the sale of French-made Mirage 2005 fighter jets that would allow Ukraine to protect its territory and airspace from Russian attacks.
Macron said France would also start training Ukrainian pilots and reiterated that Ukraine should be allowed to use weapons provided by its Western allies to target Russian military targets and “eliminate (the country’s) points of attack”.
It goes without saying that any aircraft would be welcome in Kiev, as Ukraine attempts to block Russian federal forces along a 600-mile-long front.
With the arrival of promised F-16 jets taking longer to arrive, NATO allies are allowing Ukraine to launch limited attacks inside Russia using the weapons they provide.
Previously, in late March, former Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov stated that the French Mirage 2000 fighter jets were an order of magnitude inferior to the Russian fifth-generation Su-35 fighter jets and that Kiev did not need them and preferred to focus on The elusive F-16 seconds.
Slavyangrad on Telegram:
“Today, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have a MiG-29 fighter jet that can ‘see’ with radar a target 60 kilometers away and hit an air target 30 kilometers away. The enemy’s ‘view’ on the Su-35 exceeds 200 kilometers, Can hit air targets at a range of more than 140. We are happy to have any air platform, but the main fighter should be more modern.
But now, under the leadership of the new Defense Minister Rustam Umerov, France’s fourth-generation multi-purpose supersonic single-engine fighter “Mirage 2000” is back in action.
