The WTA finals will be held on Saturday, May 4, and the ATP singles finals will be held the following day.
Who is playing in Madrid on Thursday?
The final of the women’s event will be decided at the end of the day, with world number one Iga Swiatek taking on Madison Keys just before 3pm (BST). Where is the Madrid Open held?
The iconic Caja Magica (Magic Box) at the Manzanares Park Tennis Center has been the venue for the tournament since 2009.
The three stadiums are equipped with retractable roofs and have a total capacity of more than 17,000 seats (Estadio Manolo Santana 12,442 seats, Estadio Arantesa Sánchez Vicario 2923 seats and Estadio 3 1772 seats).
Who is the defending champion?
Carlos Alcaraz, who has won the title in 2022 and 2023, is aiming for a “three-peat” having defeated Alexander Zverev in the final two years ago , defeated Jan-Lennard Struff last year, but his This year’s hopes dashed by Andrey Rublev.

Innovative doubles trial kicks off in Madrid
Changes being trialled at the Mutua Madrid Open 2024 include:
- More singles and doubles matches. The 32-team draw will reserve up to 16 spots for teams entering through the singles rankings, creating an unprecedented number of matchups between the world’s top doubles and singles players and delivering compelling new stories for fans.
- The five days of the second week of competition (Tuesday to Saturday) have been streamlined to provide fans and players with a simpler, clearer schedule.
- Reduce match time to increase match tempo and minimize downtime during matches. After a rally shorter than four strokes, the time between points will be reduced to 15 seconds (four strokes or more = 25 seconds).
- Faster transitions, less sitting down and upping the tempo of the game.
- Fans can move around freely during the game, adding convenience to the on-site experience.
