The Joint Typhoon Warning Center said in its latest advisory that “Ampiel” was a tropical storm in the Philippine Sea on Tuesday morning, Japan time.
The tropical storm has sustained winds of 46 miles per hour.
Typhoon season occurs year-round; however, most typhoons form from early July to mid-December.
Most typhoons hit or hit places like the Philippines, Japan, and Taiwan; they can also hit the Korean Peninsula, China, and Vietnam, bringing damaging winds and storm surges.
Typhoons have also hit U.S. territories, causing billions of dollars in devastating losses to Guam and other places. In May last year, Guam was hit by Super Typhoon Mawar.
Where will it rain?
Flash flooding can occur far inland from the center of the storm. Even less severe storms can produce excess rainfall that floods low-lying areas.
