After sophomore Brian Harris tore his ACL last fall, recruiting will become a later process rather than an earlier one.
But after rehabbing in the offseason and emerging in training camp and on the combine circuit, offers began to come in from the ACC and Big Ten.
The 6-foot-3, 270-pound Mandarin star opted to head to Maryland with an early verbal commitment.
“They were one of the first schools to reach out to me and show their love,” Harris told Opponent. “I have a lot of family there, too. The program they built there is crazy. It feels great to be a part of a program like Maryland.
“They put some great players in there.”
While interest in the defensive lineman increased in short order, he spent some time on campus in the spring. College Park was in early April, and Terrapin’s lead grew rapidly from there.
“They saw a lot of potential in me and I developed a great relationship with the coaches,” Harris said. “I think they saw that I was bringing great things to Maryland football.
“I committed to coach Brian Williams, coach (Lance) Thompson and head coach Locks (Mike Locksley). They were very excited and couldn’t wait to have me be a part of the program. “
The latest Terp is the second early commit from Locksley and company in the 2026 class, and now he’s focused on his health and playing the full 2024 season behind his commitment.
“I’m probably going to play post in college, but one of my main strengths is that I’m very versatile,” Harris said. “I can move anywhere on the line.”
