Melinda French Gates, one of the world’s richest philanthropists, announced Monday that she will step down as co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which She has helped lead the foundation since its founding in 2000.
The 59-year-old posted on X (formerly Twitter) that she was “extremely proud” of the work of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and that the decision to step down as co-chair was not an easy one.
French Gates said June 7 will be her last day at the foundation.

In the same statement, Suzman announced that the foundation would be renamed the Gates Foundation and that Bill Gates would become its sole chairman.
