The San Diego Padres beat the host Miami Marlins 6-2 at home on Friday night, driving three runs in Manny Machado’s return, including two in the decisive 10th inning.
San Diego has won six straight, the longest winning streak in the majors.
Padres rookie Jackson Merrill went 3-for-4, nearly stealing Machado’s spotlight and completing a double differential in this round. Merrill also had two steals, two RBIs and a stellar catch to center field, leading off the ninth inning with a home run to send the game into overtime.
