McLaren has unveiled a special livery for this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix in tribute to Ayrton Senna.
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will drive around Monte Carlo’s famous streets in the vibrant yellow, green and blue colors that represent Brazil, three times Homeland of world champion Ayrton Senna.
Senna holds the record for most Monaco Grand Prix wins with six, including five consecutive wins between 1989 and 1993.
McLaren last won at Monaco in 2008, when Lewis Hamilton overcame two punctures and wet weather to stand at the top of the podium.
Norris, who finished third for McLaren at the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix, will be looking to finish two places higher this Sunday in this one-off Senna-inspired livery.
“The team is proud to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary life and racing legacy of Ayrton Senna with this McLaren livery,” said McLaren CEO Zak Brown.
“Senna remains F1’s greatest icon and McLaren’s most respected driver. His influence on McLaren has been huge, not only in his racing record but also in his influence within the team and now There’s also his legacy, so it’s an honor to race for McLaren who wore the colors green, yellow and blue at his most successful circuit.
“On the 30th anniversary of his death, the team has chosen to commemorate and celebrate his life in Monaco, one of his favorite and most successful racing locations. We look forward to racing this weekend in this vibrant and beautiful livery ”
Senna family thanks McLaren
Piastri and Norris will also wear bespoke overalls this weekend as they look to continue McLaren’s strong recent form.
Norris has secured a third consecutive podium finish and narrowly beat Max Verstappen at Imola, two weeks after his maiden F1 victory.
The British driver is fourth in the drivers’ championship, 60 points behind Verstappen, with McLaren third in the constructors’ championship.
McLaren Automotive has also launched a one-off version of the McLaren Senna road car, called the Senna Sempre, to match the F1 livery.
“It is an honor to recognize Ayrton through these liveries in partnership with McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive,” said Ayrton’s niece Bianca Senna.
“It’s a fantastic way to celebrate his life and legacy through the iconic colors on two cars. McLaren meant so much to him and they achieved many successes together, most of which are still remembered by many today. Remember.
