Polls now show that most Republicans and all voters think Donald Trump is too old and want him out.
YouGov polling found that “59% of Republicans surveyed in a YouGov poll conducted from July 25 to 29 said they would prefer a president under the age of 75. Trump celebrated his birthday in June 78th birthday. 40% said they had no preference, and only 2% said they would prefer a president over 75.
Earlier, an Associated Press poll found that 57% of Americans wanted Trump to withdraw from the race.
The vast majority of Americans and members of his own party clearly want Trump out of office. Republicans have now been dogged by the same nominee for three consecutive presidential election cycles.
Republicans do have a chance. Primary voters do have alternatives. They could have chosen Nikki Haley or Ron DeSantis, but they chose to stick with Trump because they liked the former president’s belief that they would get a rematch with Joe Biden.
Now facing Vice President Harris, even Republicans are beginning to express doubts that Trump may not be able to match Kamala Harris’s energy and physical strength.
Donald Trump is now the senior citizen in the race, and nearly 60% of Republicans want a younger nominee.
