X boss Musk posed a softball question to former President Donald Trump during an interview on Musk’s social media platform last night After a delay of 42 minutes. Trump has touted his relationships with rival U.S. leaders such as Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin, insulted his political rivals and spouted familiar talking points, including that undocumented immigrants are dangerous. It lasted more than two hours. Musk claimed without evidence that a cyberattack caused the delays. The real explanation seems to be widespread technical issues.
- 🎧 “What we heard last night was total support for Trump as a candidate,” NPR’s Bobby Allyn tells the story first up. Not much new information was shared. Trump did mention that he was worried about the threat of “nuclear warming,” which is his way of talking about the threat of nuclear weapons. He also said the assassination attempt on him renewed his faith in God. The pair didn’t have great chemistry, but the conversation was friendly because they agreed on several topics, Ayling said. They share the same beliefs on immigration enforcement, cutting government regulations, combating violence in big cities, dealing with inflation, and that Vice President Harris should not be president. Musk said he would also be willing to interview Harris on X.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is expected to make his first solo campaign appearance today as Harris’ running mate. He will address members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, one of the largest unions in the country, at a convention in Los Angeles. AFSCME has nearly 1.5 million members, the majority of whom are state and local government workers, as well as museum, library and zoo employees.
- 🎧 It’s like a rallying cry for former union member Walz, says NPR’s Andrea Hsu Since he was a teacher. California is not a swing state, but people in attendance will come from all over the country. Although union members have traditionally supported Democrats, this is an opportunity for Walz to remind them of everything Trump has done to weaken unions during his presidency. Walz may also propose “Plan 2025,” a blueprint for the new Trump administration developed by the conservative Heritage Foundation. The plan would allow civil servants to be fired and replaced with political appointees. It could also ban employee unions altogether.
GLP-1 drugs, such as Wegovy and Ozempic, may be effective in more than just treating diabetes and weight loss. Researchers are excited about the potential impact these drugs may have on other diseases, including addiction, sleep apnea and even cancer. In several recent studies, GLP-1 drugs have shown early promise in preventing many common cancers known to be caused by obesity and excess weight, including breast, colon, liver and ovarian cancer. One study author said she believes factors other than weight loss, such as better blood sugar control and anti-inflammatory effects, may increase the protective effects of these drugs.
