Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed on Saturday to face consequences for Hezbollah after a rocket attack killed 12 children and injured dozens more.
After Saturday’s attack, Netanyahu cut short his trip to the United States and immediately began returning to Israel. A Hezbollah rocket hit a football field in northern Israel as children ran toward a bomb shelter in a Druze community in northern Israel.
“Citizens of Israel, like you, I am horrified,” Netanyahu said in a statement in Hebrew. “I was horrified to see the horrific images following Hezbollah’s brutal attack on Majdal Shams. “Victims Among them were children playing football and other victims. These scenes break our hearts. “
He added: “We embrace these families and our entire Druze community in this difficult time, which is also ours.”

“Since learning of the disaster, I have been conducting ongoing safety consultations and [began] to speed up our return to our homeland. I will convene the security cabinet as soon as I arrive,” Netanyahu continued.

“I can say that the State of Israel will not remain silent. We will not turn a blind eye to this,” he vowed.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant and IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant Herzi Halevi conducted a situational assessment of the attack on Saturday.
The Israel Defense Forces said it found about 30 warheads entering Israel from Lebanon on Saturday.

The Biden White House issued a statement late Saturday condemning the attack and reaffirming President Biden’s support for Israel’s security.
“We condemn the horrific attack that reportedly killed a number of teenagers and children playing football in the northern Israeli village of Majdal Shams on Saturday night. Our hearts go out to the families who lost their loved ones today and we are praying that The injured hope for a speedy recovery,” the White House said. “As the world saw today, Israel’s security continues to face serious threats, and the United States will continue to support efforts to end these horrific attacks along the Blue Line, which must be a top priority. Our support for Israel’s security is unwavering – and our opposition All Iran-backed terrorist groups, including Lebanese Hezbollah.
