MANCHESTER, England — Nicki Minaj’s concert scheduled for Saturday night in Manchester was postponed after Dutch police found marijuana in her bag as she prepared to leave the country.
Live Nation promoters said the show will be rescheduled and tickets will be honored.
“Despite Nicky’s best efforts to explore every possible avenue to host tonight’s show, the events of today have made it impossible,” organizers said in a statement. “We are sorry for the inconvenience caused. Deeply disappointed.”
Minaj tweeted earlier on Saturday that she was stopped at Amsterdam airport as she was about to board a flight to a concert in Manchester. She wrote on Twitter that police told her they found marijuana in her bag and it had to be weighed. Cannabis is illegal in the Netherlands, but recreational use is allowed.
Dutch Gendarmerie spokesman Robert van Capel said a 41-year-old American woman had been arrested for exporting “soft drugs”. He did not identify the woman or elaborate on the type of drug involved. Police later tweeted that they fined the woman and released her.
Minaj, 41, said on Twitter that she believed police were just trying to make her late for the concert in Manchester.
“I told you, this was to make me late so they could write negative stories. Jealousy is a disease. You know the rest,” Minaj tweeted.
Her representative did not immediately return a message Saturday.
The Trinidad-born rapper is best known for his songs “Super Freaky Girl,” “Anaconda” and “Starships.” Over the course of her career, she has been nominated for 12 Grammy Awards.
