this national association of realtors Things get a little more official with a collaboration with Nykia Wright. NAR decided to name Wright its new CEO, according to an email sent by Kevin Sears President Kevin Sears to members of the trade group, obtained by HousingWire.
Wright was named interim CEO of NAR in early November 2023 after longtime CEO Bob Goldberg retired more than a year earlier than planned. She takes over the trade group just days after a Missouri jury ruled against NAR in the Sitzer/Burnett lawsuit, Keller Williams and american family services Alleged collusion to artificially inflate and/or stabilize agency commissions.
“I am pleased to share that the National Association of Relationshiprs has officially appointed Nikia Wright as our permanent CEO, effective immediately,” Sears wrote in an email. “As you know, Nykia After working alongside her for the past nine months, having served as our interim CEO since November 2023, it is clear to the leadership team that she is the ideal person to lead NAR’s next steps.”
NAR said in a news release that Wright was instrumental in helping the trade organization “increase focus on serving members, communicate more thoughtfully and strive to become a more agile organization.”
As permanent CEO, Wright’s immediate focus will be guiding NAR and the industry in implementing the business practice changes outlined in the NAR Council Litigation Settlement Agreement. The terms took effect nationwide on Saturday, but the settlement is still awaiting final approval, which is scheduled for Nov. 26.
“I am honored to have earned the confidence and trust of the leadership team to guide this organization at such a critical time. I am committed to ensuring that our association remains a strong and effective voice for the industry and to achieve our goals of serving more Americans people bring the privilege of homeownership,” Wright said in a statement. “I have a clear awareness of our past and present, and I am very focused on building trust with NAR’s many stakeholders so that we can successfully ensure that we bring the best of NAR to each of our members.”
Wright is from Atlanta and studied finance at Carnegie Mellon University. After graduation, she moved to Europe to study international business at Cambridge University before returning to the United States to earn an MBA from Dartmouth College. She has previously served as an advisor to private and public companies, including a number of undisclosed real estate companies, and served as chicago sun times, Prior to taking on the NAR position.
Many in the industry have speculated in recent weeks that Wright would take the permanent job, which she appeared to confirm last week during her appearance on the “Real Estate Insiders Unfiltered” podcast.
