Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson and umpire Mike Estabrook got into a wild screaming match during a Father’s Day game against the Baltimore Orioles that resulted in his ejection.
The Phillies struggled in the top of the sixth inning, with the O’s leading 8-2 at their home court of Camden Yards, and it didn’t help that Estabrook reversed the original call that ruled a hit. LettStubbs. He did so after speaking to fellow referees on the field.
Before Estabrook reversed the call and brought Stubbs home, Thomson was already fuming about his placement in the strike zone behind home plate that day.

Things got heated when Thomson emerged from the dugout and wanted an explanation from Estabrook. The turning point came when Thomson pointed a finger at Estabrook when he apparently snarled at him, but didn’t poke him in the chest as he yelled.

This resulted in Estabrook turning quickly and throwing Thomson out of the game, sending the veteran manager into a frenzy.
But what we usually see in these moments is the head coach blowing off steam and the referee just accepting it. When Estabrook started passing it back to Thomson in wild scenes, he had different ideas.
Referee Laz Diaz let the argument play out for a moment before stepping in and sending Thomson to the clubhouse.
After things settled down, the game was replayed and Estabrook made the right call by bringing Stubbs back to bat as the ball didn’t hit him.
The Phillies ultimately lost 8-3, their fourth loss in the last six games.

Still, even with the loss, the Phillies still had the best record in the National League. They have a 47-24 record this season, but their away record is worse than at home, with a road record of 20-14.
