A pregnant woman nearly lost her unborn child after she purchased cooked food contaminated with listeria and filed a lawsuit against Boar’s Head.
Ashley Solberg of Minnesota was 36 weeks pregnant when she purchased and ate sliced Boar’s Head ham and turkey from a Publix store while vacationing in Hollywood, Florida.
“After consuming contaminated deli meat, she became seriously ill and was hospitalized. Thankfully, both mother and child survived,” OFT Food Safety & Injury Law Firm said in a news release about the case. stated in the manuscript.
OFT Law partner Brendan Flaherty represents many pregnant women affected by listeria infections.
“The impact of this bacteria on parents is devastating and horrific,” Flaherty said. “Often, pregnant women have few, if any, symptoms, even if the bacteria enters the amniotic fluid and damages or destroys the fetus. The toll of this bacterium on humans is so high that food manufacturers must take every possible step to look for it in production facilities and eliminate listeria.
The current outbreak caused by boar’s head delicacies has caused at least 43 cases of listeriosis in 13 states since early June.
Since then, more than 7 million pounds of meat produced by the company in Virginia has been recalled.
Solberg is seeking $75,000 in damages and any court costs.
A class-action lawsuit against Boar’s Head was also filed this month in federal district court in New York.
