The San Francisco mayoral debate took a strange turn on Monday when Democratic Mayor London Breed asked one of her challengers, Mark Farrell, to name “any drag queen” and three Names of LGBTQ campaign consultants.
“I want to ask Mark a question,” Breed began. “You were at the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club and couldn’t name any LGBT consultants. You were at last week’s debate and couldn’t name any drag queens yourself.”
“I wonder if you could — this is an opportunity to redeem yourself. Could you name three LGBTQ consultants and three drag queens in San Francisco for your campaign,” Breed continued.

In response, Ferrell, a fellow Democrat, said two of his staffers belong to the “queer community,” but he would not identify them.
“We’re not going to revise last week’s drag queen question,” Farrell countered. “But I will say that I’m incredibly proud of my support of the LGBTQ+ community in San Francisco.”
Farrell highlighted his record of support for San Francisco’s LGBT community. While on the Board of Supervisors, he authored legislation that would have prevented same-sex couples employed by the city from facing federal taxes on their health care benefits, a measure enacted before same-sex marriage was legalized.

“I will stand by my record and look forward to continued support from the entire city of San Francisco’s queer community,” he said.
Daniel Lurie, another Democratic mayoral candidate who took the stage, posed a “softball” question to Breed, asking her to name three nonprofits that had closed due to poor performance.
“I can probably give you a series of examples. I just don’t want to do that here today,” Breed responded.
Breed, who was first elected in 2018 and leads the nation’s “worst run” city, faces more than a dozen challengers for re-election, according to a WalletHub report released Tuesday. 2022 ranks second to last.

However, in a statement to Fox News Digital, company spokesperson Parisa Safarzadeh Office of San Francisco Mayor London Breedscoffed at the list.
“WalletHub does this every year, which is misleading and inaccurate because the study compares San Francisco’s budget (city and county) to other cities (city budget only),” Saffarzadeh said.
