Serve your cookie dough with these proteins Cheesy Cookie Dough Roll into bite-sized balls! The perfect dessert, also high in protein and made with healthy and delicious ingredients!
I’ve been really into cottage cheese lately. I know it can be a very polarizing ingredient, but if the texture doesn’t bother you, it’s an amazing source of protein and is actually pretty delicious!
My kid has been having these as her favorite snack for weeks and I love sneaking in protein while most days it’s hard to get her to eat anything other than carbs.
So if you’re looking for a healthier cookie dough that’s also rich in protein, look no further than this Cheesy Cookie Dough!
Why make this recipe?
bowl – that’s right! This recipe can be made in one bowl in 10 minutes. The perfect simple snack.
High protein content – Between cottage cheese, protein powder, and almond flour, these cheese cookie doughs have an average amount of protein.
grain free – These bite-sized snacks contain no grains.
Meal preparation made easy – I love whipping up a batch of these at the beginning of the week for healthy snacks throughout the week! Even better, you can freeze them for later use
Cottage Cheese Cookie Dough Ingredients
- cottage cheese – You can use full fat or low fat. Both work great. My favorite brand is Good Culture, but you can use any brand. The size of the curd doesn’t matter because you’re blending it!
- maple syrup – Honey or even brown rice syrup are great alternatives.
- Vanilla extract – I find this really adds flavor to the cookie dough, so don’t skip it.
- Vanilla protein powder – See notes below about the types of protein powders you can use.
- Almond flour – Please note that almond flour is not the same as almond meal! This recipe calls for almond flour made from blanched almonds. I love Bob’s Red Mill’s finely ground almond flour.
- Salt – Just a little, but feel free to add more or less depending on taste preference and sodium preference.
- mini chocolate chips – I find mini chocolate chips work best in bite-sized recipes, but regular chocolate chips will work too if you can find them.

Easy exchange and substitution
Use m&ms instead of chocolate chips – For the Monster Cookie Dough version, feel free to substitute the same or all of the chocolate chips with mini m&ms.
Make a funfetti version – Add powdered sugar or use powdered sugar instead of chocolate chips to make Funfetti Cookie Dough!
Make pumpkin spice for them – Add 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice to suit the changing seasons!
Use chocolate protein powder – Make a chocolate protein cookie dough recipe by substituting chocolate for vanilla protein powder.
Use honey instead of maple syrup – If you don’t have maple syrup on hand, honey is a perfect substitute for maple syrup.
FAQ
plant protein powder – There are a few different options here. These are my personal preferences.
Pea protein powder – my first choice. I find this results in the most authentic protein cookie dough. I use ritual protein powder.
Brown Rice Protein Powder – Can be a little drying at times, but works great.
whey protein powder – works well in these areas.
collagen powder – Not my personal preference, be sure to buy the vanilla version otherwise it won’t have much flavor.
It all depends on the type of protein powder you use and the number of balls you roll out. In my case I used Ritual Pea Protein Powder and rolled it into 18 balls and the result was 5 grams of protein per cookie dough bites.
Either low-fat or full-fat will work for this recipe, so it really comes down to preference.
I recommend it otherwise the texture of your cheese cookie dough will be a little lumpy.
No! If you want, you can eat this cheesy cookie dough right from the bowl with a spoon!
