Los Angeles County public health authorities are warning residents to avoid the waters at some beaches over the Memorial Day weekend after tests found bacteria levels that exceeded state standards.
In an advisory issued Thursday, the county’s public health department said people should avoid swimming, surfing and playing in these waters until further notice.
These beaches are: Santa Monica Canyon Creek at Will Rogers State Beach, 100 meters from the creek shore; Malibu Lagoon at Surfrider Beach ), 100 yards along the shoreline from public restrooms; Santa Monica Pier, 100 meters up and down the shoreline from the pier; and the entire swimming area of Mother Beach in Marina del Rey and Neva Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro .
The public health department also lifted previous warnings for the Temescal Canyon storm drain at Will Rogers State Beach and the Pico Kent storm drain at Santa Monica State Beach after sampling results found water quality levels within state standards.
