Apple Butterfly Keyboard Reconciliation
2022, Apple agree The lawsuit resulted in a $50 million settlement as part of a class-action lawsuit involving the defective butterfly keyboard design built into MacBooks from 2015 to 2019.
MacBook users with butterfly keyboards have encountered issues that require them to replace keycaps, repair the keyboard deck, and sometimes even replace the entire keyboard. Apple responded by launching fix 2018, but that doesn’t entirely solve the problem. Some MacBook users find themselves returning to Apple multiple times for repairs.
As part of the settlement, eligible MacBook owners will receive up to $50 if their keycaps are replaced, up to $125 if their keyboard decks are repaired, and up to $125 if at least two keyboard decks are replaced. You can receive up to $395 in compensation.
To qualify, consumers had to submit a claim before March of last year. Unfortunately, if you own a MacBook with a butterfly keyboard and didn’t file a claim in 2023, the deadline has passed.
The court approved the settlement agreement in May 2023. Still, those who have experienced the dreaded butterfly keyboard can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that payment is about to compensate them for their troubles.
