Communication and affinity expert and former reality TV personality Rachel DeAlto took the Inman Connect Las Vegas stage on Wednesday and as she gazed out into the audience, she declared that she believed in the power of affinity above all else.
“Relevance is the ability to easily relate to, communicate with, and inspire others and ourselves. Relevant people attract investments of time and energy,” DiAlto told the crowd. “You feel seen by them, you see yourself in them, and you feel the benefit of the relationship.”
Throughout the session, DiAlto exemplified relevance from beginning to end, sharing experiences from her personal and professional life, emphasizing the critical importance of building relevance. After 10 years of correlation research, she has a lot of stories to tell.
She cited a study of real estate agents and their clients in Taiwan that “found that the most successful agents found a point of contact with their clients,” DiAlto said.
“They find similarities: similarities in circumstances, experiences, things they like to do, priorities. They find a connection. But we can’t do that. We can’t create it. If we don’t really engage in this In the process, we will not be able to achieve this goal.

DiAlto recalled attending a party a few years ago to celebrate a real estate agent who had been in the industry for at least 30 years. She told the crowd that the gathering was one of the best because attendees included the realtor’s past clients and colleagues.
“I remember talking to her at the party and she said, do you look around? Do you see all the stories here? … She made connections and relationships,” DiAlto said. “I remember thinking, wow, she’s really depressed. All she has is relatability.
DeAlto also spoke about her experience as an expert on seasons four and five of reality TV show Married at First Sight.
Experts on the show match up couples who don’t know each other so they fall in love at first sight and get married, based on personal desires, backgrounds and partner desires. Taking all of these factors together, experts hope these couples will be able to form a loving connection after getting married.
After exiting the show, DeAlto received many letters from people who watched her show wondering why she was leaving after bringing such a relatable element to the show.
Through these experiences, DeAlto determined that relevance is a skill that needs to be learned, and the blueprint for developing a relevant and successful business is CCI: Connect, Communicate, and Inspire.
connect
Building connections requires building trust through honesty, competence, consistency and transparency. Businesses that embody these qualities in their culture will build long-lasting relationships.
comminicate
To be an accessible communicator, one must be present and adaptable. An approachable communicator must make the other person feel important; the deepest human desire is to feel important and worthy of being here, seen and heard.
Inspire
DiAlto discusses the “inspiration of osmosis”. Relevant people know and seek out what lights them up and share it with the world. This will inspire others to find their own light and help them connect with you.
