Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett called on congressional Republicans to invite Trump back to the very place he tried to attack on 1/6.
Rep. Crockett said in a statement provided to PoltiicusUSA,
“Three years after waging an ongoing war on our democracy, Donald Trump, a convicted criminal, returned to Capitol Hill to hang out with the MAGA extremists who acted as his proxies on January 6. Trump and His cronies attacked our free and fair elections, they attacked our peaceful transition of power, they attacked our Capitol — and the American people are fighting back at the ballot box to defend democracy. That’s why this November, In addition to helping restore order to the House of Representatives by electing Hakeem Jeffries as the next Speaker, voters will send Joe Biden to the White House and Donald Trump out.
Inviting Trump back to the Capitol is part of an effort to normalize Trump, a convicted felon, as a presidential candidate.
It’s obvious what the Republicans want to do. House Republicans claimed that Trump’s appearance was an attempt to unite the party, when in fact they were trying to create the image that a convicted felon insurrectionist was being welcomed back into a seat of governing and political power.
The real goal is to present an image of Trump to the world at the Capitol, to make him look like someone who could face prison time and who belongs as the leader of the United States of America.
Rep. Crockett is correct. Trump’s entry into the Capitol is an affront to democracy and shows why the American people must send Trump from the ballot box to potentially the big house.
