In Arizona, they are increasingly warning that Lake’s divisive personality and defiant instincts could undermine them again.
“When you have no real core beliefs about anything, and you’re willing to take any position that you think is politically expedient at the moment, it doesn’t take long before you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place,” said former Rep. Matt, who is running against Lake in 2022. Salmon (R-Ariz.) said.
Now, as Democrats pour tens of millions of dollars into fall TV bookings, national Republicans have yet to start seriously investing in the state.
Republicans believe they have a better chance of running for Senate and that Lake is probably certain to lose. None of them will express their thoughts directly, but national Democrats have earmarked tens of millions of dollars in television ads for Rep. Gallego and nothing for Kari Lake.
Part of the reason for this shift is that Trump, through his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, has messed up the Republican National Committee. The Republican National Committee is now committed to paying Trump’s legal bills and returning him to the White House. Republican candidates like Kari Lake are increasingly isolated.
It says a lot about the state of Arizona’s Senate race and the prospects for Republicans in 2024 that they’re already considering abandoning Lake Cary.
Democrats were ready to elect Gallego while Republicans struggled under Donald Trump.
