Rachel Maddow said on MSNBC that there is still time for Republicans to ditch Donald Trump and choose a different nominee.

Mado said:
He’s been convicted of 34 felonies, and he’s not just a former president, he’s the Republican presidential candidate. I’m going to go back to the point I made earlier, which is that I think the Republican Party now needs to make a decision as to whether it’s OK to retain the party’s nomination for president — to serve as president — despite being convicted of 34 felonies.
He is the presumptive nominee. He is not the party’s official nominee. They can choose someone else at this point, and if a felony conviction has always meant something to everyone in American history who has encountered the criminal justice system while running for political office, then the Republican Party will take this seriously and may reconsider this thing.

The Republican Party should be having a conversation with themselves about ditching Donald Trump, but they won’t. Republicans haven’t abandoned Trump after the “Access Hollywood” tape. Republicans haven’t abandoned Trump after he tried to overthrow the government. The Republicans didn’t kick Trump to the curb after he was indicted, and they won’t get rid of Trump’s 34 felonies.
Maddow sees the Republican Party through the lens of rational thinking. The Republican Party is an irrational, cult-like group driven by emotion and loyalty to Trump.
Republicans could elect a new nominee, but they likely won’t even discuss it.
