Pro-Trump Republican candidate Jeff Sink won the primary in Arizona’s deep-blue 3rd Congressional District on Tuesday.
Zinke defeated Jesús David Mendoza, 29, a software engineer and political newcomer who ran as a more moderate Republican in the race.

Zinke, who ran unsuccessfully for the seat in 2022, previously made headlines for being one of the thousands who attended former President Trump’s “Stop the Steal” rally on January 6, 2021, which followed the riots at the U.S. Capitol.
Despite his victory, he remains the candidate to win Arizona’s most Democratic congressional district.
The district is predominantly Latino and Hispanic and covers much of Phoenix.

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates it D+24, making it the most left-wing congressional district in Arizona.
Arizona Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego will vacate the seat at the end of the year and will run for Senate against Republican Kari Lake in November.

Gallego will represent the district starting in early 2023, having previously represented Arizona’s 7th Congressional District starting in 2015.
The progressive veteran is expected to be officially nominated as the Democratic nominee to succeed Arizona Sen. Kirsten Sinema, who is not seeking re-election.
