NFL player Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest during an attempted robbery in San Francisco.
Pearsall, 23, was “shot in the chest” after the incident in San Francisco’s Union Square on Saturday afternoon, and his team, the San Francisco 49ers, said his injuries were “serious but stable.”
Police said a 17-year-old suspect was in custody and “charges are pending.”
Video shared on social media showed a shirtless Pearsall being carried to an ambulance by paramedics, sitting on a gurney with his shirt held to his chest.
Police said they arrived at the scene to find two men injured and both were taken to hospital.
“During the course of the initial investigation, police learned that one of the suspects attempted to rob the victim, San Francisco 49ers player Ricky Pearsall,” they said in a statement.
“During the attempted robbery, a physical altercation occurred and both the suspect and victim were injured.”
Pearsall was the 49ers’ first-round draft pick in April, when the best college players were drafted into the NFL.
He was returning from a shoulder injury before the 49ers played their first game of the new season on Sept. 10.
