NBC News reports on Ed Martin, one of the people hired by the RNC to help write the Republican platform:
Ed Martin, the former chairman of the Missouri Republican Party, was a major supporter of former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss. In a speech to Trump supporters in Washington on the eve of the Capitol attack, he called on “die-hard real Americans” to work until their “last breath” to “stop the steal,” according to video posted online.
On the morning of January 6, Martin attended Trump’s speech near the White House, then marched with the crowd to the Capitol and posted relevant news on social media. Video surveillance footage from the Capitol released by House Republicans showed that when he arrived at the Capitol for worship at about 2:20 p.m., Trump’s supporters had broken through the cordon and rushed into the Capitol, trying to prevent Congress from certifying President Joe. Den’s victory.
The Republican National Committee hired a man who helped cite the insurrection to write the party’s platform. Presumably, this is the platform on which Republican candidates will campaign in the general election. The platform will set out the party’s values and vision for the future.
By hiring a “Stop the Steal” insurrectionist, Trump and his family showed they didn’t care about campaigning before the election. Their real campaign will begin after Election Day as they try to seize power by claiming the election was stolen.
Trump appears to be counting on a close election result that he can use to try to seize power if he loses. Hiring a senior Stop the Steal official shows Trump intends for the election not to end until the votes are counted.
