Robert De Niro appeared outside the courthouse through the Biden campaign and called Trump a money grabber, a clown and a coward who would not leave if he returned to the White House.

De Niro said in part:
We New Yorkers used to tolerate him when he was just another dirty real estate hustler masquerading as a big shot. A two-year-old playboy breaks into the tabloids. Pretend to be your spokesperson, your own spokesman.
He calls it his own. Deceiving the media into inflating his net worth.
A clown. But the city is very tolerant. We make room for clowns.
We have them all over the city. People doing crazy things on the street. We tolerate it. It is part of the city. It’s part of the culture. But it’s not someone like Trump who will ultimately rule this country. This doesn’t work and we all know it. No matter what, we make room for every clown. But no one accepted him or really took him seriously.
Of course, they take him seriously now. But across the country, people like us who didn’t know him began to support him. They believed his nonsense.
…
And reminds us that he will use violence against anyone who stands in the way of his hubris and greed.
But this is a cowardly act of violence. Do you think Trump himself has boxed? Or took one? The guy who runs into the White House bunker and hides when there are protesters outside? never. There was no blood on his hands. No, he doesn’t. He directed the mob to do his dirty work for him by making suggestions and inferences.
His gang grovels and obeys his obvious orders. Not surprisingly, murder rates and other violent crime peaked under Trump and have declined under Biden. Now he’s promising to use our own military to attack American citizens. This is a tyrant.
This is the tyrant he tells us he will become. Trust me, he means it. When Trump was campaigning in 2016, it was like a joke. This clown running for president. No, it can never happen. We forget the lessons of history that showed us other clowns were not taken seriously before they became evil dictators.
With Trump we had a second chance, but now no one is smiling. Now is the time to stop him by voting him out of office once and for all. We don’t want to wake up after the election and say. What is it again? Oh my God, what have we done? We can’t let this happen again. Yesterday was Memorial Day. Now is a good time to reflect on how Americans fight and die so that we may enjoy the freedoms guaranteed by a democratic government that, as President Lincoln said, is of the people, by the people, by the people, and will not perish by democracy.
Under Trump, this kind of government will disappear from the face of the earth. I don’t. No, no, wait. Maybe I did want to scare you. If Trump returns to the White House, you can say goodbye to these freedoms we all take for granted. And there are elections? Forget it. It has passed. This is done. If he comes in, I can tell you right now, he never leaves.
He will never leave. You know. He will never leave.
The biggest evidence supporting the idea that Trump would never leave office if returned to power can be seen among Republicans. As soon as the Republican Party gave him the go-ahead in 2016, Trump began trying to make himself permanent leader of the party until he took over the Republican National Committee and put his daughter-in-law in charge.
Donald Trump now owns the Republican Party and he’s never leaving.
Republicans could never wrest control from him or his family.
It’s great to see the Biden campaign using the platform of the Trump trial to warn the country about the former president’s threat to democracy. It would have been nice to see 1/6 officers flanking De Niro.
Democracy is on the ballot, and the Biden campaign is bringing in some big names to remind people what’s at stake in 2024.
